Reflections on Broward is now "Mountain Musings"

Spunky is a female Belted Kingfisher who is one of my favorite year round subjects. Her mate I have named Funky. He is distinguished by an all white belly and lacks the brown markings on the chest.

Old Man River is a Great Blue Heron whom I have observed for years. He tolerates me but prefers to keep his distance. He will be the subject of many photos through the year I am sure.

I finally get a close up, but just for a moment. Old Man River the Great Blue Heron is surprised to see me.

The Tricolored Heron is another year round resident of Broward. One of many of the Heron family species seen in the area. He is a lot smaller than the Great Blue Heron.

Another year long resident, this small aquatic bird dives to feed often swimming 10 to 20 feet underwater before surfacing.

Four of these domestic (African) geese wintered at a retention pond near the Broward. These ganders have a "dewlap" flap under the beak.

Swallow-tailed Kite, migratory South American Kite that breeds in Florida from approximately May-Aug.

My editor has named this Green Heron "Timiquan" after the local Florida Native Americans.

This Tricolored Heron photo in breeding colors, was taken at Fort DeSoto, Fl. I entered it in the 2015 Wild Amelia bird category and won first place in the Advanced Amateur/Professional Category. 

Although not a bird on the Broward, took a trip to Maine and captured photos of this beautiful seabird, one of the Editors favorites, the Atlantic Puffin.
